Guadalmina and its agricultural origins

The Guadalmina area has witnessed the most impressive Roman archaeological finds in Marbella. In its surroundings, the Roman ruins from the 3rd century A.D., popularly known as Las Bóvedas (The Vaults), stand out. In its origins, Guadalmina Baja was a sugar cane plantation, until Norberto Goizueta recognized the tourist potential of the area, and developed not only the golf course but also the hotel Guadalmina in 1959. Initially, the farm was for agriculture but in the following years this use was altered, and the lawn and green of a golf course replaced corn and wheat. He was the one who imported the golf and created the first course on the Costa del Sol in the current Parador de Campo, inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII.
